Periods and Cramps

Periods are part of the natural cycle of a woman after puberty. The bleeding can be managed by tampons or pads. During your period, carry extra pads and/or tampons with you.

Period cramps are caused by your uterus contracting to shed its lining, which is triggered by hormones called prostaglandins. These contractions can cut off blood flow and increase pain. Conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, and pelvic inflammatory disease can also make cramps worse. Hormonal imbalances and some types of IUDs can also add to the discomfort
